Production of Incomplete Vi Antibody in Mice

Abstract
Serological examination of sera, employing saline and bovine serum albumin as diluents, showed that immunization with purified Vi antigen elicited both complete and incomplete Vi antibody in BALB/c mice, but only incomplete Vi antibody in Cinnamon mice. Incomplete Vi antibody alone accounted for the protection afforded by serum from Vi-immunized Cinnamon mice against challenge with fully virulent typhoid bacilli. Absorption tests verified the specificity of incomplete Vi antibody and the protection it afforded.
