Abstract
Factor Rb is present in human plasma and is apparently confined to the globulin fractions, wherein it most probably is associated with the beta-globulins. Certain globulin fractions support good cultures of R. briggsae when supplemented with ALE (supernatant from autoclaved liver extracts), but not VES (defined supplementation[long dash]vitamins, carbohydrate energy sources, mineral salts). Evidence is given that R. briggsae requires 1 or more spp. of large, heat-stable molecules, non-diffusible in dialysis, in addition to heat-labile factor Rb. The latter does not appear to be glutamine or any 1 or more of 5 relatively heat-labile co-enzymes.Keywords
