Abstract
Improved methods for the preparation of a 2-week culture filtrate antigen of Nocardia asteroides have been described. Chemical fractionation, accomplished on diethylaminoethyl cellulose, evolved a single fraction, fraction F, that contained all of the demonstrable precipitating and complement-fixing antigens and that was active in eliciting cutaneous hypersensitivity in experimentally infected calves. The 2 week culture filtrate antigen and its active F fraction were free of demonstrable cell-wall antigens. Antigenic activity was not demonstrated in similar preparations of log phase filtrates. Keywords
