Abstract
The absorption spectrum of Si in Si gas and the absorption spectrum of Ge in Ge gas were measured using a two-crystal vacuum spectrometer with potassium acid phthalate crystals. The Si absorption spectrum has fine structure quite similar to that of the well-known Ge absorption spectrum of Ge gas. From the fine structure of the Ge absorption spectrum it can be concluded that bound-ejected-electron states of several symmetries exist in the Ge gas molecule.
