Abstract
Solutions containing several concentrations of a hexose and/or amino acid plus NaCl to 350 milliosmols/l were perfused through jejunal Thiry-Vella fistulas in unanesthetized dogs and the net absorption of solutes and fluid was measured. The absorption rates for each hexose and amino acid increased directly with increasing lumen concentrations as well as with increasing rates of fluid absorption. Independent from these effects, increasing lumen concentrations of glucose reduced the absorption rates of glycine, methionine, histidine, and glutamic acid. Similarly, galactose reduced alanine, methionine, lysine, histidine, and glutamic acid absorption. Fructose, however, did not reduce independently the absorption rate of glucose, galactose, or fructose. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
