Abstract
This study was carried out in the special needs department of an inner‐ring secondary school. In order to reduce the inappropriate behaviour of a 14‐year‐old boy a self‐recording procedure which provided access to positive reinforcement was implemented. Inappropriate behaviour decreased whilst on‐task behaviour and the percentage of work completed correctly increased. Follow‐up observations and subjective reporting by the teacher provided evidence that the improved behaviour levels were maintained after the intervention was phased out. Keywords
