Abstract
If it is possible to describe the state of an atom by the addition of several vectors, and if one assumes the wave function for any state of a configuration to be a linear combination of product functions for that configuration, then one can determine the coefficients in the linear combination by a simple method. Examples are given. The usual interval formula is not applicable for , where nonsplitting is the case.
