Abstract
The synthesis of 16-ketoestrone makes it possible to investigate Marrian''s postulate that the above named compound is the chromogen in the Kober reaction for estrogenic steroids. Comparison of 16-ketoestrone with estrone and estriol by several modifications of the Kober reaction and spectrophotometrically reveals the fact that the compound is not chromogenic, and hence cannot be the cause of the red color developed in the Kober reaction. Keywords
