Abstract
Compounds representing a new group of hop bitter substances, which have been named the hulupones, have been isolated. The properties of these compounds have been determined by physico-chemical methods and their behaviour on hydrogenation and oxidation has been studied. The hulupones show several features in common with the humulones and lupulones but each contains a five-membered ring. The proposed structural formulae show them to be closely related to oxyhumullnic acid. Keywords
