Abstract
A strong angular dependence has been found first in the neutral fraction of medium-energy hydrogen emerging from (111). The angular dependence can be explained well in terms of the atomic arrangement and composition of the (111) surface and impact-parameter- (trajectory) dependent charge-exchange processes at a few atomic layers beneath the exit surface.
