Feminist theory and black women's talk

Abstract
The essay argues that the analysis of black women's everyday talk must account for African‐American culture and socioeconomic class, as well as gender, as simultaneous and interrelated influences. It explores the appropriateness of a systemic form of feminist theory to such analysis, emphasizing the contrast between “normal science”; and feminist approaches to research, feminist research methods, and the relationship between research informed by feminist theory and change in black women's communicative lives.
