Quantum defect orbitals and the Dirac second-order equation

Abstract
It is shown that the quantum defect orbital (QDO) formalism may be interpreted in terms of the quasirelativistic theory of atoms. In particular, the QDO model potential is equivalent to the effective potential in the hydrogenic second-order Dirac equation.Keywords
