Abstract
A relativistic multichannel quantum-defect theory is formulated in the same way as in the nonrelativistic theory of Seaton. The solutions to the radial Dirac-Coulomb equations are reviewed in complex values of energy. The simple-model problem with finite-range potentials is used to clarify the scattering matrix and the reactance matrix. The close-coupling approximation is discussed for real atomic systems.
