Abstract
Elinin, a lipopro-tein fraction of red cells, containing A, B and Rh activity has been isolated from human red cells largely by physical methods. Ability to inhibit Rho and Rh'' antibodies was found only in elinin from Rh+ cells, and this activity was destroyed by heating to 56[degree]. Elinin could not be prepd. under sterile conditions with the present technique and could not be freed of pyrogens. Injns. of elinin with Rh activity into rabbits and guinea pigs failed to produce demonstrable anti-Rh antibodies. Injn. of elinin with Rh activity into human subjects with Rh antibody levels failed to stimulate an increase in circulating antibodies. In 2 of 6 subjects, subsequent injn. of Rh-positive cells was followed by a distinct rise in antibody titer. Injn. of 1 to 1.5 g. of elinin intramusc. failed to produce a reduction of circulating Rh antibodies in 2 subjects. Keywords
