Abstract
Energy distributions of tritons from various elements throughout the periodic table show prominent peaks which can be identified with states in the residual nucleus which result from the removal of two neutrons from single-particle states in the target. This is indicative of a double pickup mechanism for the () reaction at this energy. The use of this reaction in identifying the position and character of single-particle levels is illustrated. The reaction is also used to determine the mass of .
