Abstract
Displacement potentials have been used to express the stress distributions in a unidirectional multifiber composite under ex ternal and residual shrinkage loads. Continuity of displacements and normal and shear stresses was assumed at the fiber-matrix interface. The geometric arrangement of the fibers was hexagonal. The hexagon boundary between the fibers was assumed to change size under axial and shrinkage load yet remain regular. The com puted results show the stress distributions in the fibers and in the matrix in the axial, radial, and hoop directions. Keywords
