Abstract
AS indicated in recent reviews,1 2 3 4 the nature of the frequently described association of peptic ulcer and hyperparathyroidism has not been clarified. The induction of hypercalcemia in man has been shown to lead to gastric hypersecretion.4 5 6 7 8 We report here studies carried out in a patient with parathyroid adenomas and peptic ulcer in whom marked basal gastric hypersecretion was observed. Parathyroidectomy led to restoration of normal serum calcium values and was accompanied by a fall in gastric secretion to normal levels. The subsequent induction of hypercalcemia was invariably associated with a rise in gastric secretion to the abnormal levels observed before operation. . . .This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
