Abstract
The decay process of the Li 1s core exciton was investigated by measuring the photoelectron spectra of LiCl and LiBr. The drastic change in the shape of the valence-band spectra was observed in accordance with the enhancement of the intensity when photon energies are varied around the excitation energy of the Li 1s core exciton. This change is attributed to the nonuniform distribution of the lithium-derived states in the valence band. To interpret the broadening of the valence-band spectra, it is proposed that the core exciton relaxes during the decay transferring its energy to a valence electron. Keywords
