Abstract
Alterations in Cartilage in OsteoarthritisThe morphologic changes in joints affected by osteoarthritis were identified in writings of the Hunter brothers over 200 years ago.88 Over the intervening years, alterations in gross morphology were correlated with histologic changes, and the pattern now thought to be pathognomonic for this disorder clearly identified. In 1942, Bennett, Waine and Bauer104 presented their classic monograph, which described the progression of changes seen in the development of osteoarthritis of the knee, and seven years later, Collins105 established a classification system for the joint changes on which much of the current work is based. Before the . . .Keywords
