Abstract
A modification of the adipose tissue bioassay for insulin is described. The glucose uptake or the 14CO2 production from 14c-l glucose of adipose tissue, pooled in 8 flasks from 4 rats, is used as response parameter. Comparative determinations of the insulin-like activity of the same sera were made with the adipose tissue and the rat diaphragm bioassays. Blood samples from healthy fasting males were used as a normal material. The method of collecting the sera was found to markedly affect the insulin-like activity.
