Abstract
In PNH a decreased penetration of P through the erythrocyte membrane was found by incubating blood at 37[degree]C in P32-containing medium. Further, differences in the phosphate turnover and stability of ATP within the red cells were found. ATP showed a rapid phosphate turnover, but the stability of the compound was disturbed. The decrease in permeability and the differences in the metabolic processes were found at the same time. It is therefore probable that the change in the metabolic rate is responsible for the slow penetration of the phosphate ion.Keywords
