Abstract
28 rats were divided into 2 groups. At the age of 6 wks. all animals were given access to a Growena chick mash for 1 hr. a day. Before each hr. of daily feeding the animals were given a 5 g. dish of basic diet together with 200 mg. of neutralized 1 (+) glutamic acid. Controls had the extra b g. meal but never received glutamic acid. After 10 days, all rats were given 4 days with daily sessions of exploration in disconnected maze units. Then for 21 days each rat was given 1 trial daily with units connected in a maze. No difference was found in the maze performance of control and glutamic-fed animals. Growth curves were alike for all animals. The same results were found even with more difficult tests such as the Warner-Warden double alternation maze (8 blind alleys, and a 4-blind, double-alternation elevated maze used by Hunter). Keywords
