Abstract
Direct hypnotic suggestion has been used successfully in the treatment of anorexia nervosa. However, in those cases where resistance to such procedures can hamper progress, indirect approaches such as metaphors, behavioral prescriptions, reframing, and other strategies can be used. The applications of these approaches to the four dynamics most commonly associated with anorexia, 1) family enmeshment, 2) delaying of maturity, 3) poor self-esteem, and 4) distorted body image, are discussed. Keywords
