Abstract
THE hope that antimicrobial drugs would abolish infections as a cause of death has not been adequately realized. Current literature indicates that microbial infections continue to pose life-threatening problems and that antibiotic drugs do not offer susceptible human beings significant protection from certain types of microbial disease.It is nevertheless believed that there have been changes in the types of infection that produce serious problems in hospitalized patients today.
