Abstract
We show that the blaze effect for the antispecular orders from deep reflection gratings is intimately connected with the enhancement of the mean backscattered intensity from deeply rough random surfaces. We also prove that when the illuminated structure has a center of symmetry then the intensity in the specular direction can also be enhanced. Keywords
