Abstract
The effect of a single dose of thyrotropin on the percentage of epithelium, the mean acinar cell height (MCH), the nuclear volume and the uptake of p32 in the thyroid gland was studied in 93 young chicks. After injection of a single dose of 0.5 unit TSH, an increase in all these end reactions was seen within the first few hours. Nuclear volume was found to respond in the same way as the other epithelial reactions, while the uptake of p32 followed a different course. The epithelial reactions subsided slightly or persisted at a maximal level for 24 hours after injection, whereas the uptake of p32 displayed a rapid decline. The dose-response relationship was the same in all reactions. Keywords
