Abstract
The possibility of using the G index and its generalizations in the six basic factor analytic designs is discussed. For O- and Q-analyses G should be used if there is no mutual direction of all the variables, as G is invariant over variable reflection. In all the six designs G should also be used if the scale centre is more suitable as a reference point than the mean value. Keywords
