Abstract
Retrocorneal membranes may be composed from 1 layer only, endothelium, or 2 layers: endothelium and Descemet, or 3 layers: endothelium, Descemet membrane and corneal stroma. Besides those corneal membranes which may occur after keratoplasty, there are also other forms of inflammatory, degenerative, traumatic or genetic origin. Because diminished corneal transparency often occurs in those cases the precise diagnosis may be difficult on clinical investigation; the membrane structure often may be established only after histological examination.
