Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is a common psychiatric disorder with a lifetime prevalence of 13.3%,1 making it the third most common psychiatric condition in the United States behind major depression and alcohol abuse. If untreated, the disorder typically follows a chronic, unremitting course leading to substantial impairments in vocational and social functioning.2-8 Of all social situations, public speaking is the most prevalent fear among individuals with SAD as well as in the general population.7,9,10
