Abstract
An analytical fractionation procedure was developed which facilitates relatively detailed nitrogen balance studies of the rumen fermentation. The procedure was evaluated in an in vivo experiment using 3 animals and 3 treatments. Regardless of dietary treatment most of the nitrogen (65-78%) was observed in feed residues and microbial cells. Only very small amounts of N (less than 2%) were encountered in the form of dissolved protein. Acceptable recoveries were obtained. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
