Abstract
Various protein extracts were prepd. from hog kidneys by fractionation with ammonium sulfate and injd. over periods of 1 to several weeks in unilaterally nephrectomized rats fed a high-Na diet. Only those containing renin were effective in producing diuresis, proteinuria and loss of body wt. The rapid body wt. loss which is seen in exptl. and clinical malignant hypertension may be attributable to a hypersecretion of renin. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
