Pure Red Cell Anaemia and Thymoma

Abstract
This is a report of a case history of a patient with pure red cell anemia and thymoma and also a survey of the clinical picture and the course of the disease based on 43 cases from the literature. In the light of newly acquired knowledge on the function of the thymus the pathogenesis of the syndrome is explained as an autoimmune disorder, the autoantibody of which is directed against erythroblasts or against some factor governing erythropoiesis, for example erythropietin.
