Use of Unsaturated Sugars as Alkylating Agents. Addition of Enol Esters and Ethers to Glycals

Abstract
Addition of enol esters to acetylated 1,5-anhydro-D-hex-1-enitols (acetylated-D-glycals) in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst yields acetylated 3-deoxy-α-D-hex-2-enopyranosyl compounds which can serve as starting materials for the synthesis of other C-(α-D-hexopyranosyl) compounds.
