Abstract
A study of the conversion of purified prothrombin to thrombin by trypsin revealed the reaction to be an imcomplete one which was accelerated by Ca without increasing the total amt. of thrombin formed. The inhibitory effect of heparin on trypsin''s clotting action was also investigated. Concns. of heparin too low to inactivate the proteolytic activity of trypsin can prevent its clotting action on oxalated plasma. Heparin does this by increasing plasma anti-thrombin activity to levels sufficient to prevent the thrombin formed through trypsin''s action from becoming effective. Keywords
