Abstract
1,3-Bis(benzo-15-crown-5-)-2-thioxo-4,5-bis(hydroxyimino)imidazoline (H2L) has been synthesized using N,N'-bis(benzo-15-crown-5) thiourea, which has been prepared from 4′-aminobenzo(15-crown-5) and thiocarbonyldichloride, and cyanogen-di-N-oxide in dichloromethane. Nickel(II), Palladium(II), Copper(II), Cobalt(II), and Cobalt(III) complexes of H2L have a metal:ligand ratio of 1:2 and the ligand coordinates through the two N atoms, as most of the vicinal dioximes. [Co(HL)2(Benzimidazole)Cl. 4NaClO4] has also been prepared using benzimidazole and chloride ion as axial ligands. H2L reacts with UO2(O2CMe)2 2H2O to give complexes with a metal:ligand ratio of 1:1. All these complexes are slightly soluble in water. The ion extraction properties of H2L and N,N'-bis(benzo-15-crown-5)thiourea (BTU) towards lithium, sodium and potassium picrate from aqueous solution to dichlorobenzene have been measured. Extraction values, 1H, 13C n.m.r, i.r, and uv-visible data are presented.
