Abstract
In this article I argue that tertiary students can learn to improve their writing. Students can be taught to improve their writing through a number of strategies which do not require additional resources. A distinction is made between strong and weak strategies. This distinction is crucial to the enterprise. A number of strong and weak strategies are identified and discussed in terms of my class room experience. Keywords
