Abstract
The extrahepatic clearance of rose bengal-I131 has been measured in nine eviscerated dogs, giving a mean value of 0.33 ± .19 cc/kg-min (whole blood). The extrahepatic clearance was independent of the peripheral blood concentration of the dye over a range from 0.00038 mg/cc to 0.033 mg/cc. The error introduced in the determination of estimated hepatic blood flow due to extrahepatic extraction of rose bengal-I131 is of the order of 3.7% ± 2.8%. This error is independent of the blood concentration of the dye over the range measured. Keywords
