Abstract
Anthers of a cultivar and an inbred line of rye were planted at zygotene and pachytene and cultivated at 8° and 33°C to investigate the effect of temperature on meiotic development. High temperature treatments arrested PMCs at the stage of planting or at metaphase I; thus, anaphase migration being or completely suppressed (appearing cells with C-mitotic morphology) or showing desynchronization of chromosome movements. Low temperature treatments enlarged the duration of meiotic stages and also arrested PMCs at metaphase I probably due to low cellular metabolic activity. Chromosome pairing at metaphase I was unaffected. Keywords
