Abstract
Given adequate material from some natural source the DNA can be extracted with reasonable yield purified intact if its molecular weight is no greater than 130 million. Its mass can be measured with fair accuracy both its secondary tertiary conformation can be assessed. If there are any gross deviations from the usual linear double - helical form these can probably be detected certain more subtle aspects of structure such as single-strand breaks or protruding single-stranded ends can be explored* The work reported here substantiates the double-helical model of DNA structure proposed by Watson Crick. This model has been confirmed from every physical approach with which DNA can be examined. In a comprehensive review of the literature up to 1963 relatively little consistent evidence contradictory to the model was found.
