Abstract
Diiodotyrosine metabolism in normal adults has been investigated by analysis of urinary I compounds after intravenous or oral administration of [3:5-I2-131]diiodotyrosine. The proportion of the label appearing in the urine as iodide is greater during the first 4 hr. after an oral dose than after an intravenous dose. Results of similar investigations in a group of patients with goiter and hypothyroidism are presented. In one hypothyroid patient, an abnormally slow rate of deiodination of diiodotyrosine became normal when the subject was receiving thyroxine. Two subjects who were regarded as hypothyroid had a normal rate of deiodination of diiodotyrosine. Keywords
