Abstract
The levels of below 1.2 MeV in excitation have been studied with the (,) reactions. Relative cross sections to the very closely spaced excited states were determined by particle- coincidence measurements. Generally excellent agreement between the measured cross sections and those calculated by a direct transfer code, which includes recoil correctly to first order, was found. The selectivity of this heavy-ion reaction was used to determine spin assignments which were ambiguous in light-ion experiments. The importance of two-step processes on the magnitude of the cross section was investigated. One state showed a strong enough deviation from distorted-wave Born-approximation calculations to suggest the influence of such two-step processes.
