THE EFFECT OF ACTIVATED ERGOSTEROL AND OF PARATHYROID HORMONE ON GASTRIC SECRETION IN THE DOG

Abstract
Daily adm. of activated ergosterol to Pavlov-pouch dogs led to gradual inhibition of the nervous phase of gastric secretion induced by test meals, in proportion to the degree of hypercalcemia produced. The chemical phase of secretion was inhibited only slightly, and the response to histamine was not affected. Inj. of Ca lactate caused marked inhibition of the nervous phase of secretion for several hrs. Preliminary studies indicate that daily adm. of parathormone also has an inhibitory effect on gastric secretion.
