PROPERTIES OF FOUR HERELLEA PHAGES

Abstract
The isolation of four Herellea phases is described. The phages are tailed forms varying in overall length from 180 to 220 m[mu]. Except in one instance the phages are host specific. Some serological relatedness is observed. Grown at 37[degree] C in broth, the phages have latent periods of 23 to 31 min. The average burst for the phages varies from 12 to 148 plaque-form Ing units per bacterium. Buoyant densities for these phages range from 1.507 to 1.523 g/cm3.
