Long-Term After-Effects following Isolation of a Circumscribed Area of the Skin

Abstract
Isolation of a circumscribed area of the skin on the forearm for a week resulted in an increase in tactual acuity while application of constant light pressure to the same area resulted in decreased tactual acuity. Statistically significant changes in acuity were still evident three days after the experiment. Furthermore, there were suggestions that the after-effects may persist for as long as six days.
