Factitious illness

Abstract
Preview The folklore of almost every medical facility includes a local or peripatetic “Baron von Münchhausen,” a patient who presented spitting blood and bearing multiple surgical scars but turned out to have factitious illness. Dr Scoggin provides some clues to quick recognition of the patient who is fabricating symptoms or findings of a real illness. The basis of this fascinating disorder is not yet understood and thus management is a unique challenge.
