Abstract
It is shown that Volkov's exact solution of the Dirac equation for an electron in the classical external field of an arbitrary plane electromagnetic wave can be cast, by means of an exact Mendlowitz-type unitary transformation, in a form in which positive- and negative-helicity states are separately described by two-component spinors. High-energy limits are then obtained by a mere expansion. Keywords
