Abstract
The age relation of collagen fibers was tested with different methods of thermal and chemical dena-turation. A satisfactory age relationship existed over a large age range with the isometric and isotonic tension after thermal denatura-tion and the breaking time in chemical denaturation with 7 M urea or 2.5 M NaClO4. In chemical denaturation methods the range of age proportionality could be extended to older animals by increasing the weight. Denaturation with heat or with the chemical agents mentioned had similar effects on the bonds in the collagen molecule which are concerned in aging was indicated. Keywords
