Abstract
Insulin-induced hypoglycemia was used to test pituitary function in 6 patients with suspected pituitary deficiency. In each, a fall in serum K concentration of from 0.63 to 1.48 meq/l (mean fall 1.10 meq/l .+-. 0.30 SE of the mean) was observed during the 2-h period following administration of 0.15 units of insulin/kg body wt. In several patients the resulting hypokalemia was at a level which is associated with cardiac complications. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
