Abstract
The indications and technique of the retrograde approach to selective aortography and left ventriculography utilized in conjunction with right-and left-sided cardiac catheterization in 120 infants with suspected congenital cardiac disease are reviewed. The types of cardiac malformation in which left-sided angiography is indicated are presented in the framework of 3 general categories of disease states. In Category I two (or more) anomalies of the left side of the heart existed, one clinically apparent, the other "silent." Category II consisted of states represented by unexplained congestive cardiac failure. Into Category III were placed conditions which involved the left side of the heart as one aspect of a complex anatomic situation. Representative cases are presented to emphasize the diagnostic value of selective left ventriculography and aortography. Keywords
