Abstract
We adopt the view that the structure of disordered systems is itself determined by the formation energy of structural deviations from an ideally bonded network. By developing an equilibrium statistical mechanical model for disorder we predict properties of electronic band tails, defects, defect densities of states, and impurity doping. Keywords
